The Omnivore's Dilemma Summary Ó eBook, ePUB or Kindle PDF Ael Pollan asks the seemingly simple uestion What should we have for dinner Tracing from source to table each of the food chai. This book could be broken down into three parts The first few chapters document the shocking state of our current agricultural industry and in particular the ecological costs of our massive overproduction of corn and the conseuences it is having on the beef we eat The middle portion is a first hand description of one farm in particular that has bucked the trend and still remained viable This is then expanded into a comprehensive look at the organic food industry and how it is evolving Finally the author takes us on his own personal journey as he attempts to become a huntergatherer and ultimately prepare a meal in keeping with the philosophy set forth by the slow food movementbr The author is a journalist who I feel really attempts to look at both sides of the issues and does not come off as being too alarmist as many others have been when writing about this subject In fact as a lifelong hunter I found his discussion about the ethics of hunting and meateating to be one of the most balanced arguments I have readbr This book will definitely change the way you look at the food you eat and may even change your shopping habits as it has mine Pollan s other book In Defence of Food is a companion to this one and I strongly recommend reading both

The Omnivore's Dilemma Summary Ó eBook, ePUB or Kindle PDF Ns that sustain us whether industrial or organic alternative or processed he develops a portrait of the American way of eating. This book is amazing I recently graduated from University with a degree in Nutrition and though we spent a good amount of time studying policies this book delved into the realism of the situation from a consumerfriendly standpointbr br At one point in the book I almost cried I felt so bad about the way my food is produced This isn t what I d call a bad thing but I never realized that for every calorie in a boxedbagged salad about 50 calories of fossil fuel is consumed getting it from farm to fork So we re spending energy than what we re getting from our food Huge eye openerbr br There are many great parts to this book and I really like Pollan s point of view He doesn t seem to mix in a huge emotion so that you feel like you re reading somebody s opinion only He stays uite neutral and explains who is benefiting from each typerealm of food productionbr br Overall loving this book will probably read again recommend to friends and definitely will read of his books
