DOWNLOAD Sculpture Parks and Trails of England 100 This is essentially a guide to the sculpture parks and trails of England It is not a book on art theory nor is it just a travel guide The book is divided up into regions making it easy to access It provides information on nearly all the sculpture venues of interest I like the way the 35 Sculpture Parks are divided into 5 regions with a standard format for information about each park the address getting there overview finding your way around things to see I was delighted to find The Pride of the Valley Sculpture Park nearby us which we had never visited a good opportunity to test the book The getting there instructions seemed somewhat idiosyncratic and it was clear we would need to get the map out to find the place without too much stress That done successfully the park was as described although I think we enjoyed it than the author The time suggested matched our experienceThe book has some wonderful pictures but this is also one of the reasons the book loses a star for me and my husband He was thoroughly frustrated by many of the pictures being crammed up to and over the centre binding and two pictures being joined together to look like one picture which was confusing especially as the labelling of the pictures was not always clear I was frustrated that many of the sculptures described were not pictured and some of those pictured were not described It seems as if the author submitted her text and then the sculpture parks provided random pictures For me this stops it being a book where I could browse and learn about unfamiliar sculptors but does not prevent it being a very useful book for planning visits

DOWNLOAD Sculpture Parks and Trails of England 100 Ty This makes it easy to see which places are good depending on your preferences and time available The guide is aimed at the uninitiated in sculpture or for those that are already interested in art and sculpture but do not know about all the places available to the This book is an essential guide to sculpture parks gardens and trails in England The author says that she feels this area has been overlooked and that not many know where to find these places I think she is correct Last year gathering together information on gardens to visit for my garden tours I came across many sculpture parks and gardens that I had not heard of beforeSo here it is a neat 160 page book that highlights where to see sculpture en masse across England The book is divided into five sections relating to different parts of the country with clear maps opening each section I was surprised to see that Chatsworth only has what I would deem as a cursory mention It is the nearest place to where I live to see scultpure both old and new The author seems to cast doubt upon the annual display by Sotheby s which has run for three years now The changing exhibition highlights such pinnacles of sculpture as Damien Hirst Joan Miro Salvador Dali and Niki de Saint Phalle amongst othersThis is a welcome book one after my own heart It is a little too crammed and deserved a few pages 16 or 32 However to say that the book is crammed I must mention that the text is a little repetitive and that some of the sculptures are photographed than once The choice of sculptures portraying a wide variety of different types of work Thirty six places are visited by the author with a brief summary and sculptures of interest highlighted in the text Each entry provides directions facilities on site and a guide to how long your visit will take For those who admire this art form or who are looking for inspiration this is a good guide
